Mounts & More Ltd

The Daessy Mounting System has been proven world-wide for over 20 years and is considered by many to be the most versatile, comprehensive and robust mounting system available. The staff of Mounts & More have over 14 years experience of supplying the Daessy Mounts throughout Europe and in that time have built up considerable knowledge of customer mounting requirements and preferences as well as  the most appropriate mounting solutions for individual wheelchair makes & models. With many different styles of mount and clamps to fit most wheelchairs you can be assured that a Daessy Mount can position your device where you need it.

It is important to us that the mounting system we supply is the most appropriate for your specific requirements. As the mounts are all modular you will not be supplied with a ‘one size fits all’ system –  with different tubing lengths, frame clamp assemblies and quick release base styles each mount can be tailor-made for the client. In order to achieve this we are happy to discuss your individual requirements.

A key factor in deciding which mount is likely to be most suitable is the wheelchair itself. Please let us know the make and model of the wheelchair -from experience we know that some mounts are most suited (or not suited) to particular chairs. We also have different frame clamps designed specifically for some wheelchairs. If you are unsure of the wheelchair details, or if you have special requirements (eg the mount is to be used with a tray) then you can send digital photographs to us by email (or hard copy photographs in the post) and these will help us to answer your questions. The following are most useful:

  • Side view of the wheelchair with the device to be mounted (or a Book etc in lieu of) held in the position required

  • If the mount is to be used with a tray , a front view of the wheelchair with the tray attached and the device held in the position required

  • Make & model of wheelchair and if for a child what size of wheelchair (eg junior, intermediate)

  • Any special requirements/issues eg existing width of wheelchair is a problem at home, needs clear view to drive etc

All Daessy Mounts are supplied with fitting tools and instructions and there is no charge for telephone assistance when fitting! However we do offer a supply and fitting service in mainland UK excluding Islands & Highlands. Our fitting fee is £240.00 ex vat which covers fitting of mounts on up to 2 wheelchairs at the same location in one visit. For other fitting options please ask for a quote.

With our fitting service we do NOT provide a Tilt Test or any Stability Test other than a risk appraisal in situ – this is NOT a detailed risk assessment. There is no approved Tilt Test or Stability Test or even common best practice in the UK and our insurers will not indemnify us for carrying out other than a basic risk appraisal in situ. Customers concerned at stability are advised to consult their local Wheelchair Service or Wheelchair Provider.

In choosing a mounting system please bear in mind that although the final choice is yours, to comply with our insurance we will be obliged to refuse to fit if we believe that the particular combination of wheelchair and mount creates an unmanageable increased risk. Issues frequently encountered include:

  • Titanium framed wheelchairs – attaching any clamp to the wheelchair will cause damage o the titanium by starting a stress fracture

  • Lightweight Aluminium framed wheelchairs – attaching any clamp MAY cause damage to the aluminium by starting a stress fracture and if the action of attaching a clamp doesn’t, a collision involving the mount probably will. If you have to have a mounting system on a lightweight aluminium framed wheelchair, choose a removable one that can be taken off when not in use to minimise risk of damage.

  • Attaching mounting systems to any wheelchair is likely to change the centre of gravity and may cause a tipping hazard. On children’s wheelchairs the likelihood is significantly increased, especially with the smaller children’s wheelchairs which have a narrow wheelbase and/or when there is a seat cushion/insert.

  • One of the greatest risks of attaching a mounting system onto an already top-heavy wheelchair comes from the mount being capable of someone ambulant leaning on it or pulling on it. Downward pressure on the mount or using the mount as a handle to drag the wheelchair can cause the wheelchair to tip.

  • Remember that a wheelchair mount will almost certainly increase the width of the wheelchair although some of our clamps have been specifically designed to keep that to a minimum where width is an issue.

Please remember, our mounting systems are designed for normal use around the home, school and office. None of our mounting systems are designed for safe use in transport and should be removed during transit to comply with MHRA and Health & Safety Guidelines.

Just because a risk is identified it doesn’t mean that a mounting system cannot be added. Choosing the most appropriate mount and having strict user rules can contain many otherwise adverse situations. In most cases a careful, general common sense approach will avoid potentially risky situations.
